Just an Average Day
6:00 am - I wake up, come down stairs make coffee, check my email and have quiet time with the Lord.
6:45 am - Evan and Merit come down. Due to our mini-me's not being entirely like us (they are naturally early risers) we set a Darth Vader Alarm clock in Evan's room for 6:45am. They wake up often far before that time, but are not allowed to come down stairs (unless there are extenuating circumstances (i.e. wet the bed, vomit, etc) before then.
7:00 am - Breakfast for the curtain climbers, more coffee for Chris and I and our individual routines for getting ready for the day (His includes taking a shower and getting dressed for work. Mine includes brushing my teeth and staying in my pjs - unless we have an early morning appointment.)
8:00 am - Say good-bye to Chris. Yes this is an event on it's own in our house. It almost always includes tears by the kids.
8:30 am - The kids and I start school. Currently what works best for us is starting with our Daily Bible Devotion. Then we follow in this order: Math, Phonics/Reading, Evan's Therapeutic Listening, Handwriting/Fine Motor Strengthening, Science/Social Studies (depending on the day), and ending with some small type of thematic learning unit that involves a game (i.e. they don't even realize they are learning).
10:30-11:30 End with school. Free time for them. NO TV. Have I mentioned that I don't allow the kids to watch TV unless there is something rather major going on that I need them preoccupied for? Which is very rarely. Evan doesn't even enjoy TV and often verbally lets us know he would rather the TV not be on. I personally believe it plays into his Sensory Integration Disorder (often also referred to as Sensory Processing Disorder and Sensory Integration Dysfunction). While the kids have free time, then is when I shower and get ready for the day.
Noon - Lunch and chores (Often Chris comes home for lunch, which is a nice change from life in 29 Palms.)
1:00 pm - Quiet time for all of us. Typically includes listening to an audio book or light music while playing with blocks or coloring or some type of quiet activity.
2:00 pm - Kids play outside. They initially do this while I do my daily household chores and get school ready for the next day. Later I join them outside.
5:00 pm - Chris arrives home. I prepare dinner and he typically hangs out with the kids.
6:00 pm - Dinner
6:30 pm - Family Time. This typically includes Chris and the kids going for a walk, playing basketball outside, playing Wii Bowling, or Chris watching the news while while the play. I often can be found during this time cleaning up from dinner and check my email/reading blogs.
7:00/7:30 pm - Baths and bed for the kids.
8:00 pm - Chris and I hit the couch and relax. Often included is dessert!
10:00 pm - We head to bed and each reads for as long as we can keep our eyes open. Twenty minutes for Chris and 45 minutes for me.
