Coming To An End

Wow.  I can't believe how fast this year is coming to a close.  We will be finishing Kindergarten on Friday.  Technically we could have finished last week, but I decided I wanted to do a few fun things to wrap the year up.  So, instead I tacked on another week to our school year.  I love that I have the option to do that.  We are taking a light day today.  Later in the week we will be putting together a garden and a time capsule.

Chris and I discussed attending a "promotion ceremony" with our local homeschool group, but ultimately decided against it.  What I'm about to say could be highly debatable, but oh well.  It's our opinion and they are our children.  So, here it goes.  Chris and I both believe that children today are praised and given ceremonies for every little thing.  We feel that when children are publicly celebrated over even the smallest accomplishments it devalues the public celebrations of the BIG accomplishments.  We also believe that there is something to be said for privately celebrating accomplishments and showing your children that you are proud of them without all the pomp and circumstance.

So....here's our version of a public celebration of Evan and Merit completing Kindergarten and moving on to First Grade!!!
